Alexander Bonus, natural trumpet,
is regularly engaged by organizations such
as Apollo's Fire, Chicago Opera Theater, Tafelmusik, Dallas Bach Society,
Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and the Boston Early Music Festival. He has appeared in recitals with the Newberry Consort, trumpet soloist Niklas
Eklund, and Tragicomedia. In addition, Mr. Bonus has performed as principal
cornettist with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. His recent
semi-improvised cornetto recital was broadcast live from the Chicago
Cultural Center.
In 2003, Mr. Bonus founded the Forces of Virtue ensemble and record label to
promote unknown sacred and dramatic music from the renaissance to the
baroque. He has lectured at the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern
University, DePaul University, Roosevelt University, and the Newberry
Library. Alexander Bonus holds two degrees from the Eastman School of Music
and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in musicology and performance practices at
Case-Western Reserve University.
